Know the Warrant Articles, learn how the Bd of Selectmen and Warrant Comm Voted on each Article, and ATTEND the STM on Oct 29th at 7:30pm.

Medfield Voters Strongly Encouraged to attend SPECIAL TOWN MEETING!

Town Moderator, Scott McDermott, strongly encourages all Medfield residents to attend the Special Town Meeting (STM) on Monday, October 29th at 7:30pm - MHS Gymnasium.

All are encouraged to attend and a quorum of 250 voters is necessary!

The Warrant includes 11 Articles and unlike the Annual Town Meeting Warrant (ATM), which gets mailed to each household, the STM Warrant did not, but you can view the entire STM Warrant on the Town of Medfield website.

The Board of Selectmen voted on each Article at their 10/16/18 meeting and the Warrant Committee voted on each Article at their 10/24/18 meeting. Below is a brief description of each Article and how each Committee voted:

Article 1. Authorize the BOS to establish 25 MPH Speed Limit on any roadway in thickly settled or business district. Selectmen voted to RECOMMEND DISMISSAL. Warrant Committee voted DISMISSAL.

Article 2. Authorize the BOS to establish designated safety zones with 20 MPH speed limit. Selectmen voted to RECOMMEND DISMISSAL. Warrant Committee voted DISMISSAL.

Article 3. Authorize the BOS to accept a gift of land. 11.8 acres on South side of Bridge Street. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 4. Authorize BOS to lease a portion of former MSH including Lee Chapel and infirmary with surrounding land for up to 99 years to purpose of developing and operating an arts and cultural center. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted DISMISSAL.

Article 5. Amend Town Code Article 300 Zoning by adding new Section 300-12.17 to create Senior Housing Residential Development Overlay District. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 6. Amend the Town Code Chapter 300 Table of Use Regulations for the Senior Housing Residential Development Overlay District. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 7. Authorize the BOS to dispose of by sale, lease, parcel of land on Hinkley Lot containing 5.48 acres to a private developer to construct affordable/moderately priced residential housing for seniors. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT (Selectmen Peterson recused himself from voting). Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 8. Amend the Town Charter to change from an elected Town Clerk to an appointed Town Clerk. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 9. Amend the Town Charter to change the date of the Annual Town Meeting from last Monday in April to first Monday in May. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.

Article 10. Appropriate funds to open The Center on Saturdays through June 2019 and pay for staffing, operating expenses, programming, meals, utilities, and associated costs. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted DISMISSAL.

Article 11. Transfer sum of money from the balance of Iron/Manganese ATM2018 Article 34 for the purpose of studying and/or implementing the reduction of unaccounted for water in Town's supply. Selectmen voted to SUPPORT. Warrant Committee voted to SUPPORT.
