The Medfield Historical Society will present a talk by Jonathan Lane, Executive Director of Revolution 250, about the American Revolution on Wednesday, February 11, at 5:30 PM at The Center at Medfield, One Ice House Road, Medfield.
The talk will focus on the lives of the people of Massachusetts during the transformative years from the Stamp Act crisis to the new federal Constitution. Between 1765 and 1790, ordinary men and women across the Commonwealth experienced profound political, social, and economic
upheaval. Towns mobilized in protest, committees of correspondence spread new ideas of popular sovereignty, and thousands offered support—material, moral, and military—to the struggle for American independence. At the same time, families endured shortages, inflation, shifting labor patterns, and the strains of a long war fought on their doorsteps. Drawing on the stories of farmers, artisans, merchants, women, free and enslaved African Americans, Indigenous communities, and
soldiers in the field, this talk reveals how Massachusetts became a crucible of revolutionary change.
Revolution 250 is a consortium of Massachusetts organizations working together to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Director Jonathan Lane, has more than 30 years’ experience in public history, tourism and cultural programming. He was awarded the “Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism Revolutionary Achievement Award” from Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy in March of 2024.
