Holiday Greens' Sale Saturday December 6

Find beautiful holiday decorations at the Medfield Garden Club's Greens' Sale, Saturday at First Parish, 26 North St., from 10-noon.

Doors will open for the Medfield Garden Club’s annual Greens’ Sale at 10 A.M on December 6th, at the First Parish UU Church, 26 North St. The handmade holiday wreaths, boxwood trees, “kissing” balls, swags, arrangements and ropes were created from fresh greens, berries and flowers by members working together during the prior week. Various sized arrangements will be suitable for end tables, centerpieces and fireplace mantels. Doors close at noon so it is important to shop early for the best selection. The annual sale has become a tradition in Medfield during December although just how long this tradition has been going on is uncertain. Many members of 25 years or more remember that it was an established event when they joined. Pinky Meader, who joined in the sixties, remembers that she held workshops in her home and the sale in her barn. Another member claims that when she started, in the eighties, it was more of a luncheon and general Christmas sale. The consensus is, however, that without a doubt the proceeds from the sale are appreciated by everyone who travels the by-ways of Medfield The club’s purpose is “to provide knowledge and appreciation of gardens, horticulture and floral design as well as to encourage conservation and community beautification.” The greens’ sale in December and the plant sale in May are the only fund- raising events held annually to purchase plants for roadside sites, supporting the beautification part of that objective. Members seasonally plant and maintain close to twenty sites at major intersections and in public areas throughout Medfield. The club also sponsors Art n Bloom at the Medfield Public Library in March, combining interpretative flower arrangements with art works by high school art students and educational programs that help members learn more about gardening and conservation are held monthly, September through May. Membership is open to all those interested in gardening in any one of its many forms. These programs are open to the public with no admission fee. Plan now to visit the sale Saturday between 10 and noon for great holiday decorations and help keep Medfield beautiful.
