If Alexa told you, maybe you would believe it?

When is enough?

Do we challenge our beliefs, personal philosophies, goals, work, culture and government as frequently or as emphatically as we do our GPS? My husband and I are quite different in regard to how we rely on or even trust the information provided by our GPS. Immediately the statement, by my husband, is made, with abandon, as the directions appear on our dash… “Oh, that can’t be right!” I, on the other hand, am quite ready to begin the journey, feel she has my back and would not lead me astray. Does that mean my husband is less trusting? More inquisitive? More analytical? Am I more impetuous? More complacent? More trusting? Definitely not more trusting! Is our response to our GPS indicative of how we approach our lives and the world around us?Relying on the accuracy of the GPS is a luxury to me, and one less thing that I need to consider in my day. My time is much better spent worrying about our children, obsessing about my work and dismayed by the fact that I can no longer run the distances or speeds I once did. Yes, and wondering which Real Housewives I can binge watch on Bravo while I am painting today. Priorities! Of course, I am mildly interested in learning which way she, the GPS, set to a female voice, is sending us as I am a very creative and curious person. Isn’t it much better to go forward in faith? Wait, that is what organized religion teaches us but applicable here too. Safety as well, isn’t it much safer to have “the lady” talk us through the drive as opposed to how we once fumbled with road maps or Mapquest print outs while trying to reach our destination? Talk about distracted driving! I am certain there has been some very risky driving, while trying to see 95 South, heading through New York, juggling an oversized roadmap displaying every road you could imagine and many you have never heard of while trying to navigate your way. I also recall being on a major highway during commuting hours and seeing a business professional reading his folded Wall Street Journal leaning against his steering wheel…I don’t actually know if it was the WSJ but just giving him the benefit of doubt! For that matter who knows or even cares what his profession was just, risky driving behavior…What is it about our want to question a computerized inanimate object yet we struggle to question what makes us tick or the world around us? Where is the passion? How can we question the important aspects of our lives and what impacts them with the same inquiry and determination? Question our beliefs, our government, our laws…how we treat one another? How do we go faithfully along? Isn’t our president supposed to help guide our country? Isn’t he or she our GPS? There is no honor in complacency. I am just not sure, an automated GPS is the right outlet for questioning especially when it cannot question back! Are you a capable driver? Can I trust you to obey the rules of the road? My personal GPS wants to ask the US Congress, are you fit to lead? Do YOU understand the direction you are headed and what rugged, unmarked and dangerous, roads you are taking us on? Will you ultimately be responsible for driving us off the cliff and into the abyss? What does Alexa say and by the way what happened to Siri? She must be a Democrat. Does Alexa find Trump unfit to lead? Maybe we should ask her, as this current administration has lost their way, working hard to keep their job and not do their job. I recall when my mom died, from pancreatic cancer years ago, at a far too early age. My dad, her senior by fourteen years, was suffering from dementia. Even though I was greatly involved in their life on a daily basis and they mine, I was struck to learn the extent of my dad’s cognitive decline upon her passing. A dramatic and painful understanding ensued and our current political status is no different, just on a much larger scale and magnitude. Republicans are, on a daily basis, covering up for a person who is unfit to hold office and the disease is intensifying …Redford and Newman said it best in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid…”who are those guys?”My response, not to the directions provided by my GPS, but to alter my husband’s words, in relationship to our current political status…”oh, this definitely isn’t right!”
