On Friday, October 30th at 10:30 a.m. government officials, environmental organizations and community groups will celebrate the opening of the Medfield Charles River Gateway with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony is at the former Medfield State Hospital and the public is invited. Residents of the Town of Medfield and neighboring towns are encouraged to attend and visit this new recreational destination. Enter at 100 Hospital Road, Medfield.
The Ribbon cutting ceremony will include remarks by Carol Gladstone, Commissioner of the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, State Senator James Timilty, Richard DeSorgher, Medfield Board of Selectmen Chair, Charles River Watershed Association and The Trustees of Reservations. A tour of the Gateway will follow the event.
Located on the site of the former Medfield State Hospital, the Medfield Charles River Gateway was created through the remediation of the hospital’s three-acre dumping site along the Charles and the restoration of wetlands. The project protects against flooding, provides new recreational opportunities, and serves as a model for the cleanup of state-owned lands adjacent to waterways.
