The Kingdom of God

Jesus taught most often about the Kingdom of God. What did He say?

[Jesus] said, “A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return. Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, ‘Invest this for me while I am gone.’ But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘we do not want him to be our king.’
“After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were.”
Luke 19:12-15 (NLT)

Jesus’ favorite topic was the Kingdom of God: what it’s like, how to get in and how to live there. Today’s parable falls into the third category. It describes how we, as residents awaiting the King’s return, should live followed by the rewards and consequences.

Jesus sets the stage.

He has gone away but will return to rule as King. Until then, each servant is given an equal portion of His treasure with clear instructions to invest this gift on His behalf. Some people hate Jesus and actively work against His Kingship. When Jesus returns, each servant will have to show the results of their work.

Who are you in the parable? One of God’s servants? Or one who doesn’t want Him as their King?

What are your gifts? How are you using them? What’s the return on your investment?

I am searching for Truth. During his trial, Jesus told Pilate “What I say is true.” (John 18:37) Please join me over the next few weeks in examining Jesus’ words as the source of Truth.
