Letter to the Community from School Committee Candidate

"Dear Medfield Community,

My name is Sophia Viglas and I am writing to you to ask for your vote in the town election on
Monday March 31st to the Medfield School Committee.

My husband and I moved to Medfield 15 years ago and I have been involved in the Medfield
schools since my children began at Memorial. I am once again proud to currently serve as the
Co-President of the PTO at Wheelock School. At Wheelock, I have collaborated with
administration, staff and parents to support the amazing opportunities and enrichment activities
that Wheelock offers, and to bring new initiatives such as the Holiday Shoppe and 3rd Grade
Glow Party.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and for the last 18 years I’ve worked at the English High
School, a 7th-12th grade Boston Public School of 750 students. I’m currently the Director of
Counseling Services and on the Leadership team at English High School. My position at
English has given me a breadth of experience that I would bring to the school committee. I
have an understanding of both the daily experience of an educator in the building, and also the
perspective of an administrator, trying to understand the policies set forth by the district and the
impact of them being operationalized at school.

I am eager and well-prepared to step into the role of a school committee member. My breadth of
experience, clinical training, and ability to consider different perspectives have equipped me to
engage immediately in meaningful conversations about our schools. My passion for supporting
our community, combined with my experience as a current parent of two school-aged children,
drives my deep commitment to our schools. I have always wanted to do more for the Medfield
community by bringing my expertise, energy, and commitment to our schools. Every day, I
advocate for students to access a meaningful education, and I’m excited for the opportunity to
do the same for my own community on the school committee.
