The schools are Medfield’s #1 asset for the Town’s future – as are the children who attend. PROOF – the number of present day adults who have returned to Medfield to raise their own children. Today’s parents pay tuition for all day kindergarten, and sport fees. I am sure there will be more in the future. We cannot have schools that “make do”. What was sufficient when we were kids, is no longer “OK” for today. Example: The security planning, and implementation, needed for today, was not an issue when we seniors went to school. We need these overrides today – not tomorrow. This is good planning.

THE RESIDENTS OF MEDFIELD CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE OUR ALS SERVICES. REMEMBER - WESTWOOD, MILLIS AND WALPOLE HAVE GIVEN NOTICE THEY WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE MEDFIELD WITH ALS SERVICES AS OF JULY 1, 2018. This could directly affect your family or mine. It is unfortunate the Board of Selectman did not make note of this very important fact in their summary. This is the only reason we have this override BECAUSE IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

This situation came about in October 2016 when the contracted ALS provider to Medfield ceased providing service. Up until that time we were part of the Mutual Aid arrangement with our surrounding neighboring towns. As of that date, the neighboring towns have been supporting us, but we have not been able to reciprocate. Thus, these towns have advised ALS support will cease July 1, 2018 unless Medfield takes step to correct this situation.

We have had contracted arrangements in the past, all of which have failed. It is time to staff our Fire Department with paramedics.

Vote yea to better the planning process for our Town. Parks and Rec has been an orphan child for far too long; and, the lack of maintenance on town buildings will only continue to be more costly if we continue to drag our feet. Let’s thoughtfully plan for our Town’s future,

Respectfully,

Laurel Scotti
