Letter To The Editor: Invest In Medfield's Youth
Please make sure you get out and vote YES on questions #1 and #2 so we can continue to invest in our young people and our community.

To the Editor,
When I told my 7th grader I was going to write a letter to the Editor to encourage people to vote YES on question #1 and #2 on June 11, she had a lot to say - much more than she usually does around the dinner table. Her first response was in the form of advice. She said, “It should be a persuasive letter and just remember to keep it short and do not use words like ‘I think’ or ‘I hope’- be confident that what you have to say is right”. Then she thought a little longer and said “People should vote yes because then I can move back to to Medfield when I am older to raise my kids here”. Well said Kate, you are clearly learning a lot at school, you are a smart young lady, and you understand the value of paying it forward.
As this school year winds down and my 7th grader puts the finishing touches on her “Creature Feature” and my 4th grader looks forward to visiting the MakerSpace today to complete his North America project - I am once again reminded that my husband and I made the right decision to move to Medfield for our children’s education.

Young people of Medfield have so many potential opportunities waiting for them in Pre K- grade 12. Unfortunately I use the words “potential opportunities” because if question #1 and #2 do not pass next week, then many of these opportunities will be taken away as early as next year from all current and future young people of our community.
Community - that is what Medfield is. By definition, we are a group of people living in the same place, sharing common interests and goals. A community is like a family living under one roof. Now our “community’s roof” is in need of some overdue maintenance and repair. It always hurts to spend money on unexpected repairs like a new water heater, a new furnace, or exterior painting, but these things can not be ignored, for if they are, then not only does the value of our home go down, but so does our quality of life.

Whatever phase of life you are in, whether you have lived in Medfield for 40 weeks or 40 years - you do live in this community and these questions should matter to you, so please make sure you get out and vote YES on questions #1 and #2 so we can continue to invest in our young people and our community.
Thank you, Julia Farmer
