Medfield Choosing Design For Dale Street School Project

MEDFIELD, MA — School officials announced they are closing in on selecting a design for the Dale Street School construction project. The Medfield School Building Committee will meet with Massachusetts School Building Authority officials Tuesday to select an architect and finalize plans to either build a new school or renovate the existing one.

Superintendent Jeffrey Marsden said the school is functional for learning, but the building is approaching the end of its life span and needs major improvements to be aligned with standards for 21st century learning.

The current school also isn't compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and doesn't have the classroom space needed to keep up with increases to the number of elementary school students, Marsden said in a statement.

The school was one of 16 accepted into the building authority's program in 2017. Part of the cost for the Dale School project will be paid by the state. Once a design is selected and the rest of the funding is approved, construction is expected to begin in October 2021. School officials said they hope to have the project completed by August 2023.

"We are very excited to be moving forward with this project, and we are appreciative of everyone who has been a part of the process so far," Marsden said. "Our hope is that this project will result in a modern facility that will be a functioning learning space for our Dale Street students for many years to come."
