Medfield Farmers' Market to Continue into October
Weather permitting the Medfield Farmers' Market will continue through the month of October
The Medfield Farmers’ Market will be extending its schedule through October. The Market, held every Thursday from 2 through 6:30 p.m. on the green in front of the historic First Parish Meeting House on North St., was scheduled to close September 28. With the approval of the Board of Health and First Parish it plans to continue through October, weather permitting. More details will be available at the beginning of the month.
As fall begins there are greater harvests of fruits and vegetables and a new farm vendor, Fairmount Fruit Farm from Franklin, displayed pears, peaches and apples last week along with White Barn Farm whose summer veggies and herbs have been very freshly harvested throughout the season.. White Barn Farm also began carrying cheese Narragansett Creamery and farm fresh eggs earlier this month. It is hoped all these newly added items will be carried into October as well.
Wagwan, a prepared food vendor, whose offerings are changing the taste buds of customers toward Jamaican spices has several sides in addition to his jerk pork and chicken. The aromatic and flavorful sweet potatoes make the diner question what the other ingredients are that are so skillfully blended. A caterer’s Pangea van, on site alternate weeks, carries various prepared natural/paleo meals and sides without any unusual spices but still pleasing to the taste buds. Of course no market is complete without seafood and the Jordan Brothers seafood truck has been a popular staple here for over five years.

Melt in Your Mouth of Boston, a new bakery vendor, joined the market recently. (not to be confused with the church’s bake sale table.) The cakes and cupcakes use all natural ingredients including vegetables for food coloring. Last week’s table featured: Salted Caramel Apple Layer Cake, Cookies and Creme (All Natural Oreo) cupcakes, Chocolate cupcakes with Peanut Butter, Chocolate cupcakes with Vanilla frosting. Who could ask for a greater variety but there’s sure to be much more?
In addition to foods, the many vendors during the summer included The Mini Emporium van of children’s clothes; L&A clothing and accessories for various ages; Little Beehive Farm’s honey and honey products including lip balm, insect repellant, and candy; Juice Plus, nutritional supplement representative; wellness practioners from The Medfield Holistic Wellness Center; coffee grounds for gardening, courtesy of Starbucks; handmade soaps from MDS Soapworks and Sherborn Soap; Confectionary Creations’ jams, jellies, relishes and pickles.

Although the market is sponsored in part by the First Parish UU Church, it is an independent venture. The committee that connects the two however provides a table of puzzles and coloring books to occupy small children and a bake sale table supplied and staffed by church members. The diverse homemade inventory changes weekly but is always popular and all the proceeds are donated for the maintenance and upkeep of the historic building. By purchasing from this vendor there are two objectives: supporting the historic church and finding homemade breads, pies, muffins, cookies, and whatever else came from local ovens.
The only way to know what is new of different at this market is to visit it weekly. Parking is available behind the church building or along North Street.
