Medfield Farmers' Market continues through August and September

Vendors selling seafood, produce, Jamaican jerk specialties., paleo cuisine, eggs, jellies, jams, local honey, handcrafted soaps and homemade baked goods will be at the Medfield Farmers’ Market throughout August and September each Thursday from 2-6:30 P.M. on the grounds of the First Parish historic Meeting House adjacent to Meeting House Pond on North St. Parking is available to the rear of the church building and along North St.

The First Parish bake sale table is featuring rosemary garlic parmesan drop biscuits, Ghirardelli chocolate brownies, gluten-free chocolate cupcakes, and Irish soda bread, all home baked, as well as pink lemonade ice pops. The church ladies also host a kids table for young ones who get bored waiting for adults to shop. The table is supplied with coloring books and large-piece puzzles for their use. Tables and chairs are nearby also for adults or children to eat their snacks of the home baked goodies or food from other vendors.

Summertime is such fun when everything starts ripening at once and the choices at local farm stands are overwhelming. White Barn Farm of Wrentham is dedicated to using organic methods and welcomes customers to chat about its variety of vegetables and herbs learn more about uses for the ones with which they are unfamiliar. . The farm stand is now supplied with the usual garden vegetables that have been harvested this week including peas, carrots, zucchini and summer squash, cucumbers and the colorful, flavorful greens for salads and sides including radicchio. There are fresh picked onions and new potatoes, corn and peas. The farm also has flowers now blooming and a variety of herbs, one of which is a lemon basil that is great in lemonade. Tomatoes are ripening and the farmers are proud of the 20 varieties grown, many of which should be ready very soon.

Several of the vendors have canopies over their stalls while others sell from their trucks such as the Jordan Brothers Seafood and Pangea Cuisines and the Mini Emporium, a kids clothing vendor. The market is small but varied and the vendors are friendly. Customers should look around to find everything that the market has to offer this week. It differs each week except for the farm stand, seafood truck, Wagwan Jamaican Jerk Bar, and a few other faithful weekly vendors including First Parish Bake Sale, Little Beehive Honey Farm, MDS Soaps and Starbucks, who do not sell their coffee but offer free used grounds for garden use. Intermittent regular vendors include Art by Nickki who is expected weekly in August, Confectionary Creations, Schilling Eggs who are also there weekly when enough inventory is available. Visit often, especially now that so many vegetables and flowers are ready and in season. Most of these vendors have their own web and/or Facebook page and the farm has wonderful recipes for every season.
