Medfield Green Month Was a Success - Coming Again in October to a Transfer Station Near You

Medfield Green would like to thank Ken Feeney, Jean Ouellette and the staff at the Transfer Station for all of their help with the recent Medfield Green Month, a community recycling, reuse event which was held at the Transfer Station every Saturday in May. Thanks to Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization for sponsoring the event.  The month long event was very successful and all of the various vendors were very satisfied with what was collected/donated.  The ReFoamIt truck, which was collecting clean Styrofoam, was included on a tour that a group of cub scouts were taking at the Transfer Station.  The scouts were very interested in the process of recycling Styrofoam and they all went home with a 6 inch ruler, each one was made from 3.6 recycled coffee cups!

We enjoyed talking with many residents as we passed out the fliers at the tip floor.  We hope that our efforts have increased awareness about recycling and that we will see an increase in recycling in Medfield.  Did you know that it is much more cost efficient to recycle compared to throwing something in the trash?  For the fiscal year to date, at the transfer station, recycling represented 26% of the total tons disposed but only 13% of the cost!  It costs 2.5 times as much to dispose of a ton of trash as it does a ton of recycling!  Recycling saves money as well as the environment!

The detailed flier on Medfield Green Month is posted on our website, medfieldgreen.org.  Please refer to it as needed if you have items to be recycled or reused. Numerous websites are listed on the flier as a resource.  Also, keep an eye out at the Transfer Station for new signage regarding recycling in Medfield.

Plans are currently underway for another Medfield Green Month in October, with the same vendors. We hope to have the following collections:  Electronics, furniture/household items, clothing, reusable building materials and Styrofoam.  Think ahead and start saving things now that can be recycled or repurposed in October!

We invite you to join Medfield Green in carrying out our mission of “learning and sharing how to live green”. We are all various shades of green, but every little bit counts towards a better environment now and a nicer place to live in the future!    Please send an email to info@medfieldgreen.org with any questions or to get on our very informative email distribution list.
