Medfield H.S. Class of ’72 Celebrated 50th Reunion
The weekend of September 16 - 18, 2022 was filled with fun activities for a large number of the MHS Class of 1972 graduates as they gathered to celebrate their 50th Class Reunion.
The Reunion Committee worked for over a year planning a full weekend of events. Reunion Chair, Bob Harner, along with Gail (Nyren) Carey, Paul Cioto, Ron Gustavson, Bob Meaney, Debra (Cook) Musseu, Marypat (Kane) Oropallo, Kathy (Bohner) Regan, Phil Sugg, and Nancy (Wicker) Warnick planned a fun-filled weekend for those who were able to attend.
The weekend began on Friday evening and the first event was gathering for a reception at Primavera in Millis.

The following morning the reunioners were offered a tour (given by Medfield Historian, Richard DeSorgher) of Blake Middle School, which was their high school in 1972. Many of them commented on how much the school had changed.
Following the tour, everyone gathered outside for a celebratory Class of '72 Tree Planting. The tree chosen to be planted was a Linden tree. When Linden’s get larger, they offer dappled shade on the ground below them and they have an incredible scent when in full bloom. A plaque entitled, “Enjoy My Shade” was placed at the base of the newly planted tree commemorating the celebration of the Class of '72's 50th Class Reunion.

The tree planting had a dual purpose however. In addition to being a gift from the MHS Class of '72, it also represented the annual tree planting in the Town of Medfield. The Town of Medfield is a "Tree City" in Massachusetts and each Tree City is required to plant a tree annually, so this year, the Class of ’72 Linden fulfilled that requirement. Selectman Pete Peterson and Selectman Gus Murby attended the tree dedication and Murby read the official tree dedication proclamation.
After the ceremony, the Class of ’72 graduates posed for photos and held hands as they circled the tree in a moment of unity and reflection. Shortly after, the reunioners boarded a school bus for an official “Tour of Medfield” narrated by Richard DeSorgher, who pointed out all the many changes since 50 years ago.
Ending the day on Saturday evening was the main event, the Class of ‘72 Reunion Dinner at the Blue Hills Country Club in Canton.
The final event of this very busy weekend, was a Sunday picnic on the lawn of the Dwight Derby house where, Bruce Harris, one of the Class of ’72 lived when he was growing up in Medfield.
Class of ’72 member Wally Hersee summed up the weekend by saying “Our conversations picked up where we had left them in third period algebra”.
