Medfield Historical Commission Seeks New Members

The seven-member Medfield Historical Commission is appointed by the board of
selectmen. Our job is to identify and protect Medfield’s historical and archaeological assets. We make sure historic preservation is considered in community planning and development decisions.

Two of our valued members – one with over 20 years’ service - have regretfully resigned.

We hold monthly open public meetings at the town hall. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 13, starting at 7:30 pm. If you’re interested in joining the commission, please try to attend.

Administering Medfield’s Demolition Delay Bylaw is an important part of the historical
commission’s work. This 25-year-old bylaw assures that owners who wish to demolish potentially historic structures pause and consider alternatives to demolition before summoning the bulldozer.

The perfect candidate (who doesn’t exist, but we need two) would be a Medfield resident with expertise and enthusiasm for historic preservation, architecture and architectural history, construction, and American and Medfield history. Interested but lesser-qualified candidates are
also very much encouraged to apply by emailing one of the co-chairs: David
Temple (davidftemple@yahoo.com) or Dan Bibel (dbibel@verizon.net).

A resume is helpful but not required.
