Makerspace Open House

Tuesday, January 8, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Free; no registration required

Come on in and try something new! Here at the library we have a Makerspace full of equipment, tools and crafting supplies available for your use. This open house is a great opportunity to tour the space if you've never been here before, or to try out a new piece of equipment with help nearby. From high tech to traditional, we probably have something that will float your boat! Already working on something? Bring it in and chat with other makers while you work! Registration is not required, but sign up if you'd like an email reminder about this event.

Snail Mail Letter Writing Session *For Adults

Wednesday, January 9, 12:00-1:30 p.m.

Free; no registration required

Remember the joy of getting a letter in the mail? You know, the real mail? Drop by the library between noon and 1:30 p.m. to drop someone a line and make their day! We'll have stationery, pens, envelopes and some fun collage materials if you want to make a personalized postcard. We'll even put a stamp on your correspondence and post it for you! All you need to bring is your address book. (If you no longer have an address book, bring your phone so you can text your letter's recipient and ask for their mailing address!)

Irish Step Dancing *Ages 7-9

Wednesday, January 9, 4:15-5:15 p.m.

Free; registration required

During this introductory class, students will learn the first movements of a reel, as well as a traditional Irish circle dance! All they'll need is an interest in rhythm, movement and fun! Comfortable clothing and sneakers recommended. Taught by two-time World Champion Irish Step Dancer Liam Harney, owner of Harney Academy of Irish Dance. Ages 7-9. Please register as space is limited.

New Year's Book Binding

Happy New Year! Design and bind your own book to use as a 2019 journal, scrap book, photo album, sketchbook, or....?!? We'll have everything you need but feel free to bring interesting paper, old postcards and greeting cards or even cardboard, paper and envelopes out of your recycle bin! Music Makers

Enhance your little one's love of music during this 30 minute bonding time with songs, dance, and movement games led by award winning singer/songwriter Carrie Rowan. Ages 0-5 with an adult. Microwaveable Neck Warmer

Medfield Library announces reoccurring activities

The STEAM Room – Medfield Library’s Makerspace

Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Thursdays, 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Free; no registration required

Patrons of all ages can drop in to use the Makerspace whenever the library is open! However, during the days and times listed above, library staff is also there to help with the equipment, tools and toys we have available. We've got a sewing machine, vinyl cutter, 3D pens, and jewelry making, embroidery & duct tape craft supplies-just to name a few! We'll also have a craft or activity set up and ready to go if you're unsure of what to try. And as always, the STEAM Room is open and available for use anytime that the library is open for everyone aged 16+ and/or children accompanied by a parent or guardian.

SLAY

What in the world is SLAY?! It stands for “Sassy Library Advisory Youth” (hey, our past members came up with the name), and it’s the library’s teen advisory board. Our SLAYers have direct involvement in ideas, purchases, events, and displays in the Teen Area! Join the Teen Librarian Erica for a meeting and boss her around. Plus, there are always free snacks! Grades 6-12 welcome.
