Parachute Play

Makerspace Open House
Tuesday, February 12, 6:00-8:00 pm
Free; no registration required
Come on in and try something new! Here at the library we have a Makerspace full of equipment, tools and crafting supplies available for your use. This open house is a great opportunity to tour the space if you've never been here before, or to try out a new piece of equipment with help nearby. From high tech to traditional, we probably have something that will float your boat! Already working on something? Bring it in and chat with other makers while you work! Registration is not required, but sign up if you'd like an email reminder about this event.
Snail Mail Letter Writing Session *For Adults
Wednesday, February 13, 12:00-2:00 pm

Remember the joy of getting a letter in the mail? You know, the real mail? Drop by the library to drop someone a line and make their day! We'll have stationery, pens, envelopes and some fun collage materials if you want to make a personalized postcard. We'll even put a stamp on your correspondence and post it for you! All you need to bring is your address book. (If you no longer have an address book, bring your phone so you can text your letter's recipient and ask for their mailing address!). Registration is not required, but sign up if you'd like an email reminder about this event.
Bernadette's 2nd & 3rd Grade Fun

Brown Bag Lunch with Public Health Nurse

Stop by at lunchtime, and take control of your health! Bring a lunch of your choice (a selection of beverages will be provided) and all of the prescription medications that you are currently taking. Our Public Health Nurse, Alyssa, will review your meds and offer feedback and assistance. She'll also take you blood pressure! Please register.
Vacation Yoga for Big Kids

T-Shirt Rag Quilt Instructional Demonstration

Have a bunch of old t-shirts taking up space in your drawers? Learn how to turn them into a cozy keepsake at this instructional demonstration. You'll go home with the knowledge for cutting, laying out, and sewing together a t-shirt rag quilt, as well as an instruction sheet, so you can make your own quilt at home. Please register as space is limited.
No sewing machine? No worries! At the Library Makerspace, we have everything you need to make your quilt (except the t-shirts, of course.) You can come in anytime the library is open and use the equipment, free of charge. We also have a sewing machine available for check out in our "Unusual Items" collection.
Not sure how to use a sewing machine? Not a problem! Plan on staying for an hour or so after the demonstration to get a quick lesson in sewing straight lines (that's all you have to do to make a quilt) with some time to practice and ask questions.

Copper Stamping *For Teens
Tuesday, March 5, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Teens are invited to sign up for a metalsmithing class with artist Heather Beck. Using hammers and tools, customize copper bookmarks and other items with shape and letter stamps to create words and textures. Afterwards, the bookmarks are dipped in sulphur to create a burnished look. Please register as space is limited.
Family Games & Puzzles Day

The STEAM Room – Medfield Library’s Makerspace
Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Patrons of all ages can drop in to use the Makerspace whenever the library is open! However, during the days and times listed above, library staff is also there to help with the equipment, tools and toys we have available. We've got a sewing machine, vinyl cutter, 3D pens, and jewelry making, embroidery & duct tape craft supplies-just to name a few! We'll also have a craft or activity set up and ready to go if you're unsure of what to try. And as always, the STEAM Room is open and available for use anytime that the library is open for everyone aged 16+ and/or children accompanied by a parent or guardian.

SLAY

What in the world is SLAY?! It stands for “Sassy Library Advisory Youth” (hey, our past members came up with the name), and it’s the library’s teen advisory board. Our SLAYers have direct involvement in ideas, purchases, events, and displays in the Teen Area! Join the Teen Librarian Erica for a meeting and boss her around. Plus, there are always free snacks! Grades 6-12 welcome.
