Medfield Public Safety Building Open House: Press Release
Check out the new building Saturday, Oct. 29.

The following is a press release sent by Mike Quinlan, Co-Chair of the Medfield Permanent Building Committee.:
In conjunction with the Medfield Police and Fire Departments, the Medfield Permanent Building
Committee cordially invite the citizens of the Town of Medfield to an open house commemorating the
substantial completion of the new Town of Medfield Public Safety Building on Saturday, October 29,
2016 from 9am until noon. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 am and the public will be
invited inside to tour the new facility located at 114 North Street.
Approved at Town Meeting in April of 2015, the Public Safety building was completed in approximately
16 months and will serve the town for decades to come. Thanks to a favorable bid construction bid
environment, a very strong team of consultants and sound financial management the project will be
significantly under budget. The committee has chosen to use some of that savings to install a new
photovoltaic solar array on the roof of the fire department apparatus bays which will significantly
reduce the operating costs over the next 25 years. Despite adding this significant feature to the
building, we estimate that the project will still be approximately $600,000 under budget.

In addition to the initial cost savings and thanks to Medfield’s excellent credit ratings, the financing costs
for this project were significantly below estimates. Due to this, the town will save over $3.25 million
over the life of the bond issue (20 years). This amounts to an approximate 15% savings from the budget
approved at Town Meeting.
The Permanent Building committee would like to thank our consultant team: Daedalus Projects Inc.
(Owner’s Project Manager), Dore and Whitter Architects, Inc. in collaboration with CR Architecture
(Architects and Planners), Garcia, Galuska and DeSousa Consulting Engineers (MEP Engineers), Engineers
Design Group (Structural Engineering) Pare Corporation (Civil Engineering) and G&R Construction
(General Contractor).
