Medfield’s Worthy, Robertson Shine in Track Postseason

Medfield track's Taylor Worthy broke the school record in the 800 meter run and Ian Robertson closed in on the school's record for the one-mile run at the MIAA All-State Track and Field Outdoor Championships.

One trackster broke a school record while the other closed in on one while placing in their respected events at the MIAA All-State Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Fitchburg State University on June 5.

Taylor Worthy broke Medfield High School’s 800 meter run record with a time of 2:17.40, placing sixth in the state meet. Worthy’s time qualified her for this past weekend’s New England Championship meet in Saco, Maine, where she placed 13th out of 30 runners in the 800m with a time of 2:21.37. with a time of 2:18.56.

“As you can imagine Taylor is a dream to coach,” said Medfield High School girls’ track coach Melinda Lohan. “She has all the qualities
of a talented runner such as determination, hard work, discipline and
passion for her sport. What makes her stand out is her compassion for
teammates, her willingness to do whatever the team needs to win no matter how difficult the request, and her heart. Taylor is a role model for young women and her peers.”

Lohan said Worthy’s time in the state meet broke the school record previously held by Amy Skerry and Kallie Nixon and she is truly honored to coach the talented trackster.

“[She is] such a talented young woman who can run anything from the 200m to the 5k and be as successful as she has been for the past three years in the TVL,” Lohan said. “Her only loss this season was to teammate Sally Todd, who ran an excellent 2-mile race. Taylor had just completed the 200m in 26.5 seconds against Norton to help teammate Kristina Gustafson break 27 seconds (she ran 26.6) and before she could step off the track she was turning around to get on the line to run the 2-mile. I would love to take the credit for helping her become such a great runner, but some kids just have it, and Taylor has it all. I have enjoyed watching her tackle her goals this postseason.”

On the boys’ side of the track, Medfield’s Ian Robertson continues to impress head coach Tom Woods in the one-mile.

Robertson, only a sophomore, placed 13 out of 23 runners in the one-mile at the state meet with a time of 4:25.47, which according to Woods was a four-second personal best.

“He sits less than two seconds away from the school record and will be a threat in the TVL for two more years, six seasons of running,” Woods said.

Woods said out of the 23 athletes qualifying for the mile in the state meet, four of them, including Robertson, were underclassmen. Robertson also placed fourth in the one-mile run at the MIAA D3 Championships with a time of 4:29.23.
