MEMO’s 2018 "Joy to the World" Student Singing Contest

Auditions: Tuesday, December 4th - Grades PreK - 5 at 6:30pm ~ Grades 6-8 at 7:30pm ~ Grades 9-12 at 8:00pm

Performing: Friday, December 7th at 6:30pm during MEMO's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at Baxter Park

Contest: a cappella* singing of any holiday or seasonal song, 1-3 min. in length, for soloists, duets, or ensembles

Where: The Chorus Room at Medfield High School (Auditorium entrance)

Who may Participate: Entrants must be Medfield residents or students and should be well-rehearsed. Performance on Friday should be from memory.

How to Register: Registration deadline: Mon., Dec. 3 - required for each person auditioning (soloists and ensemble members), including a parent’s signature (unless age 18+). Bring your Registration to William Raveis Delta Real Estate, 503 Main St., or email to JTTWcontest@gmail.com.

Outstanding Performers will be selected by judges to perform their winning songs at the Tree Lighting Dec. 7, 6:30 and be welcomed to ride on the MEMO float in Saturday’s parade, and will receive a framed certificate. All contestants are invited to the stage to lead the caroling at the Tree Lighting. Three Outstanding Performers will also be invited to perform again Sat. Dec. 8 at the First Baptist Church, Main Street, 7:30 PM at the Lowell Mason Holiday Concert Fundraiser. *The performance must be either unaccompanied or sung with portable instrument, for example, with guitar. REGISTRATION FORM: MEMO’s “Joy to the World ! ” Student Singing Contest in honor of Medfield’s Lowell Mason (1792-1872), composer of Joy to the World!

1. Extra weight will be given for originality and musicality. Choreography is not necessary.

2. All solo and group entrants must register by the deadline, with parent’s written consent (below)
unless 18 or older. All entrants are welcome.

3. Late registrations will be considered if space is available.

4. All entrants must be Medfield students in grades pre-k -12 (in any public or private school).

5. One or more acts will be selected by the judges in each category (grades pre-K – grade 5, grades 6-8, grades 9-12, and ensembles in any grades). All decisions of the audition judges are final. Audition results will be communicated by email the evening of or the morning after audition.

6. All acts must be performed without recorded or instrumental accompaniment unless played by thesinger or the ensemble, for example acoustic guitar, from memory.

7. Entrants must be available to perform before the live audience on the night of the Tree Lighting at Baxter Park. Riding the MEMO float, if there is one, in the holiday parade the next day is at the option of performers. 3 Outstanding Performers will also be invited to perform again Sat. Dec. 8 at the First Baptist Church, Main Street, 7:30 PM at the Lowell Mason Holiday Concert Fundraiser.

8. The entrants waive rights in the performance, photos, or recordings thereof, if any.

9. MEMO will do its best to have suitable amplification equipment on hand for the performance.

10. Audition, performance, caroling and riding the parade float are at the entrant’s risk.
