Help Us Build A New Memorial School PLAYGROUND Fundraisers

As students and staff head back to Memorial School to kick off the 2022-2023 school year, The Memorial School staff, in conjunction with the Memorial School PTO, are thrilled to announce plans and a dedicated fundraising launch for a new school playground that will benefit every Memorial age student in Medfield for many years to come.

The vision of a new playground has been in the works since early 2019, but were delayed during the pandemic. Updated plans have been approved for the new playground and include the building of multiple play structures, a safe artificial turf field and an ADA compliant and accessible playground for all students. This plan has been developed by a local company and vetted by the PTO and school administrators over the past few years and is finally able to be realized.

In the words of Missy Bilsborough, Memorial School Principal: “The Memorial playground is used every day, before, during and after school as the weather permits. It is a place for our kids to play, run and climb as they interact with one another and develop friendships. We greatly value play and recognize the positive impacts that outdoor activities have on health, wellness, and getting our students ready to learn. We are looking to build a playground that replaces the existing structures that have been in place for over twenty years with ones that are both inclusive and accessible to all our students. Our kids deserve nothing less.”

The Memorial PTO is excited to share more information on the playground plans along with fundraising information at both Memorial School PTO meetings and at the upcoming Parents Information Night for Memorial families on September 21st. You can also find out more at the newly created Memorial School Playground Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MemorialSchoolPlaygroundCommittee.

The Memorial PTO is also planning various family-friend fundraisers to support the building of the new playground, and a PTO Playground Committee has been formed to help support the exciting initiative. “As a parent of both a current and future Memorial student, we’re excited to see a new playground come to fruition. Outdoor play is so critical to the development of children at this age, and we can’t wait for our children to be able to socialize on a new playground with exciting features.” says Rachel Grof, a Memorial parent and co-Chair of the PTO Playground committee. “We have been planning for this launch for over a year,” said Danielle Tata, co-President of Memorial PTO. “It’s going to take a lot of work, but I know that our community can come together and make amazing things happen.” The Memorial PTO will be looking to the community for lots of fundraising support for this amazing playground in the coming months, so please stay tuned for announcements and events!
