MFi Accepting Applications For Youth Leadership Program

Medfield is known as a community with a strong sense of philanthropy and volunteerism. From an early age, the town’s youngest residents have opportunities to make a difference in their community. Those opportunities continue to grow as children come of age in our town. It was a natural progression that the Medfield Foundation, the umbrella organization for many local volunteer fundraising initiatives, would establish a program where high school students could take that philanthropic spirit, run with it and gain leadership experience in the process.

The Medfield Foundation (MFi) is a 100% volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation whose mission is to enrich the lives of Medfield residents, build a stronger community, and facilitate the raising and allocation of private funds for public needs in the town of Medfield.

The MFi launched the Youth Leadership Program in 2014 with 12 youth leaders to support The MFi Angel Run: a perfect opportunity to get involved and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to plan and manage a fundraising event. The current MFi Youth Leader Program has between 24-28 members, about 6-7 per grade. The youth leaders will work under the direction of adult youth leader coordinators. Besides the Angel Run, the youth leaders are involved in other MFi initiatives and events such as the Medfield Day booth in September, the MFi volunteer award ceremony in April, Medfield Cares about Prevention (MCAP), Sustainable Medfield, the Cultural Alliance of Medfield, the Medfield Food Cupboard and other philanthropic events the youth leaders decide to coordinate throughout the year. The Youth Leaders also facilitate a grant application and award process that awards a portion of the Angel Run proceeds to a worthy applicant. Participation will require approximately 20 hours of volunteer time during the school year.
