MHS Principal Parga Announces Commended Students In The 2024 NMSC
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 320 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test(PSAT/NMSQT®).

These academically talented students will continue in the competition for over 7,100 National Merit scholarships. To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application which includes academic records, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
From over 16,000 Semifinalists, more than 15,000 will advance to the Finalist level, where about 7,250 Merit Scholarship Awards will be awarded.
Finally, College Board’s National Recognition Program is pleased to award MHS seniors Ava Aldrich and Roman Schoenfeld with the Hispanic Recognition Award.
Ava and Roman received this award because of their academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT®.
Students must receive a qualifying score on their PSAT as well as a qualifying GPA based on submission of their high school transcript.
