MIAA D2 South Pairings: Medfield Boys’ Hoops Open State Tourney Play Against Norwood on Feb. 28

The Medfield High School boys' basketball team drew the fifth seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament and will host 12th seeded Norwood on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in first round action.

In a season dedicated to assistant coach Ken Brackett, who , the boys’ basketball team turned in a – good enough to earn the fifth seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional State Tournament and a first round home game.

The Warriors will host Norwood (11-9), the bracket’s 12th seed on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

“[Medfield head coach] Herb Grace I think has had a tremendous year,” said Medfield Athletic Director Jon Kirby. “The boys’ basketball team has pretty much spun around early season losses, beating Westwood, Hopkinton the second time around with a fairly young team. … Losing Kenny Brackett has been a difficult thing for us all and it’s been an emotional year.”

Medfield, winners of 8 out of its last 10 games, has found more consistency in the second half of the season and is coming together at the right time. The Warriors are led by starting guard Johnny McCarthy, who recently won the MetroWest region’s 3-point contest and seniors Bobby Hunter, Tommy Conlon and Sam Tawa.

“It’s nice to see a team on the rise,” said Kirby. “Beating teams the second time around and heading in that direction and they challenged right up until the end for a league title. They had a great year.”

Medfield finished second in the TVL behind Norton this season. In last year's state tournament, the Warriors fell on the road to in the opening round.
