Montrose School Offers Summer Courses to Empower Girls' Learning, Expand Interests and Encourage College
Summer courses for girls entering grades 3 - 12 offer enrichment in week-long courses.
Girls entering grades 3 – 12 will participate in week-long summer enrichment classes at Montrose School, in half-day and full-day sessions that run from July 11 – 29, 2016. With small class sizes and interactive instruction methods, the Montrose Summer Program welcomes girls from all schools in an atmosphere of friendship and fun.
In addition to providing academic, “get ahead” courses, the Montrose Summer Program continues to expand its offerings to provide enriching experiences in STEM, theater and athletics, with offerings such as Coding, Robotics, Field Hockey and a new two-week Musical Theater class.
The Montrose Summer Program’s SAT Prep classes are taught by Montrose School’s math and English department coordinators, Sue Leist and Barbara Whitlock. Leist and Whitlock bring a combined 50 years of teaching and tutoring success to the program. “I’m teaching this course as community service outreach to all girls motivated to reach higher on the SAT,” said Leist. Whitlock added, “It is a privilege to make accessible expert SAT test prep to a broad range of girls in this challenging economy.”

“Mrs. Whitlock took the time in the Summer Program SAT Prep class to learn how my daughter best learned,” said Jill Bellavance, mother of Megan, who took the SAT Prep class last summer. “She did wonders for Megan's self confidence, and Megan improved 120 points on her verbal score.”
One exciting new offering this year is Coding for girls in grades 3-5 or 6-8, both for novices but grade-aware in terms of project ideas. Donna Sneider, the IT Director at Montrose, will teach the course and is excited to help girls gain a foothold in this new and fast-growing field. “This is the future -- for any student, but especially for girls who are realizing the fun and practicality of computer-related majors and careers,” said Mrs. Sneider. “Join us, learn and enjoy!”
