OCTOBER is Medfield GREEN Month

Special Collections For Donation, Reuse, and Recycling Every Saturday

The Department of Public Works and the Transfer Station and Recycling Center (TSARC) are collecting items for donation, reuse, and recycling from 9 am to 1 pm every Saturday in October at the Transfer Station as part of Medfield Green Month.

In partnership with several businesses and non-profit organizations serving the area, TSARC is focusing each Saturday on different materials. This Saturday, October 6, Residents with a transfer station sticker can drop off electronics equipment including, TVs, monitors, computers, printers and cartridges, entertainment systems, all cables and wires, projectors and telephones. The transfer station will also accept accessory items such as CDs, discs, servers, printed circuit boards, rechargeable batteries and all consumer electronics. A fee will apply to all items.

“We are forging ahead with Medfield green month and have several partners on board,” said TSARC chairwoman Megan Sullivan. “We are thankful for the partnership with Electronix Redux in Norfolk this week. They are a data-safe compliant business that recycles materials from electronic components.”

On Saturday, October 13: Medfield Green Month will present a food composting program with starter kits for sale $15. In addition, backyard composters can be purchased for $53.13. If you’ve been wondering how you can reduce your trash and help the environment, stop by to learn more. Additionally, clothing, linens, towels, shoes, and other textiles will be collected. Textiles in any condition, as long as they are clean and dry, are repurposed for their best use. Dignity Matters, a non-profit providing feminine hygiene products to disadvantaged women and girls, will be accepting sealed sanitary pads, tampons, and new underwear.

On Saturday, October 20: High quality reusable building materials for resale will be collected by Boston Building Resources. Construction debris will not be accepted. Baseball equipment will also be collected and will be given to disadvantaged youth.

On Saturday, October 27: TSARC will be collecting clean, white styrofoam to include packing blocks, coolers and shipping containers only.

The transfer station also collects regularly, mattresses and box springs, household hazardous waste, textiles and books. A transfer station sticker is required to access the transfer station.

Stickers can be purchased by mail and at Town Hall for $75 and are valid for two years.

About the Transfer Station and Recycling Committee: The TSARC is both an advisory and working committee that supports the DPW in their operations of the Transfer Station and helps with education, programs, and outreach that encourages the principles of reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle.
