MSH Master Planning Committee and Nolan Receive Awards!

The MSHMPC is honored to be the recipient of the prestigious Planning Project of the Year for the MHS Strategic Reuse Master Plan by MA-APA.

Medfield State Hospital Master Plan Reuse Plan receives "Planning Project of the Year" and Steve Nolan "Citizen Planner of the Year!

The Medfield State Hospital Master Plan Committee (MSHMPC) is honored to be the recipient of the prestigious Planning Project of the Year for the MSH Strategic Reuse Master Plan by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association (MA-APA).

The Committee and Resource Committee, along with the Town representatives and Consultants, were recognized for their creative and innovative ideas, refinement of planning techniques, excellence of thought and writing, and providing a model for other communities at the awards luncheon held on December 14, 2018. Mentioned during the award presentation was our attention to community involvement, best practices, and sustainable development principles.

We are proud to offer a plan to the Town which incorporates measurable implementation tasks and which will provide a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents.

The Medfield State Hospital (MSH) Strategic Reuse Master Plan is a plan and specific guide for the reuse and rehabilitation of 39 historic buildings plus selected new construction for a total of 661,000 SF on a 128-acre campus overlooking the Charles River. The state hospital campus once owned by the Commonwealth was acquired by the Town of Medfield in 2014.

The nomination was submitted by Kathy McCabe of McCabe Enterprises. The McCabe team includes CRJA/IBI Group, Pare Corporation, and Paul Lukez Architecture. The consulting group also included Carri Hulet with the Consensus Building Institute. Medfield’s Town Officials included our Town Planner, Sarah Raposa, and our Town Administrator, Michael Sullivan. Our thanks to Kathy McCabe and Jen Mecca of McCabe Enterprises, and Sarah Raposa, our Town Planner, for their work on the nomination documents.

Special thanks are due the residents of Medfield for their time, assistance and willingness to take part in this endeavor.

In addition, Stephen Nolan, MSHMPC Chair, was recognized as the Citizen Planner of the Year by MA-APA; not only for his MSH-related work but also for his contributions to local affordable housing efforts and the ZBA. His exemplary efforts and impressive community service over the past 30 years were recognized and applauded.

The nomination was submitted by Sarah Raposa, Town Planner and Michael Sullivan, Town Administrator.
