New ‘n Towne Club of Medfield Celebrates Milestone: Annual tradition dates back to 2003

Eleven former presidents of the New ‘n Towne Club of Medfield came together this past Saturday, June 3 at the home of parliamentarian Meg Cabezud to thank outgoing president Kate Scuderi and welcome incoming president Kristin Kaye.

This gathering marked the 20th anniversary of this annual event that was started back in 2003 by Karen McCarthy and Michelle Barrette, as they invited their predecessors to help them welcome and pass on advice to then-incoming president Leanne Labelle.

Traditions at the event include a toast to the new president who is presented with both a lovely hat as well as a wooden gavel. Attendees each bring a dish to share, as they catch up over brunch and brainstorm ideas for making the organization even stronger. The past presidents also sign a book, which has been passed along since 2003, with a note of encouragement for the new president.

“It’s one of my favorite social events of the year,” explained Barrette, “giving me an opportunity to catch up with friends I’ve had since I moved to town as well as meet our newest residents who are eager to make Medfield their home. This gathering is filled with inspiring, capable women who continue to engage in their community and learn from one another.”

New ‘n Towne is a volunteer organization that provides opportunities for new residents to meet other people and get to know their new community. Activities include Playgroups, Book Talk, Bunco, Couples Night Out, a Speaker Series, and many social events for the whole family. Many people attribute their strongest relationships to those they formed while actively participating in this organization during their first five years in town.
