NEWS from the Medfield Plastic Reduction Initiative...

We are rapidly approaching the Medfield Town Meeting date of Monday, April 29, when a proposed ban on single use, thin film plastic bags at checkout will be voted on.

All Medfield residents are urged to join in efforts to reduce plastic waste within our town. The Medfield Plastic Reduction Initiative has hosted multiple educational events for the public to
learn about the extent of the plastic waste issue globally and why so many other towns and cities within MA have already put restrictions in place.

According to MA Sierra Club, state residents use more than 2 billion bags per year (about a bag per person, per day) and these items have been found to essentially last forever within our environment.

As of February 2019, 93 Massachusetts cities and towns, representing over 40% of the state’s population, regulate single- use thing film plastic shopping bags. Our intention is to have Medfield join these communities.
