North Carolina and Maine.
“Dad” was an extraordinary listener who helped his children, Mike Short Jr. and Andrew Short,
navigate life at every turn. We’ll always remember the life lessons he taught us and the
donuts every Sunday morning. We’ll also remember the countless Boy Scout trips, fishing on
Great Pond, and not-so-fun times cleaning up the yard of our childhood home in Medfield, MA.
He was quite the Dad.
Mike was a lifetime civil servant who spent his childhood traveling with his father, John Short,
and family throughout the world for the US Army. He was extremely proud of being a Norwich
University graduate. Mike began his career as a 1LT in the US Army Signal Corp in Mannheim,
Germany. He then worked for many years in the Defense Contract Management Agency as a
Quality Assurance Specialist, Program Analyst, and Program Integration Specialist. He
completed his career as a Liaison Officer with the US Army Research, Development, and
Engineering Command. While holding these positions, he served at the same time as a LTC in
the Massachusetts National Guard. He was a passionate American who cared deeply about our
country and protecting our democracy.
Mike “Dad and Pa” Short loved his time most of all in Maine while sitting with Claudia on the
deck by Great Pond, entertaining family and friends, or playing with his granddaughters. He
would gladly take a bad weather day in Maine over any day anywhere else.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, John Short and Lillian Short. He is survived by his
wife, Claudia Boozer-Short; former wife, Mary F. Short; son, Michael Short,Jr., and wife,
Victoria Parsons; son, Andrew Short, and wife, Collette Short; granddaughters, Emaline Short
and Maren Short; brother, John Short, and sister-in-law, Sharon Short; sister, Peggy (Short)
Sierakowski, and brother-in-law, John Sierakowski; sister, Kathy (Short) Benson; and many
nieces and nephews.
Mike’s memorial service will be held this summer at his beloved Great Pond in Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Belgrade Lakes Association would be a wonderful way to

Arrangements are in the care of Shuler Funeral Home.
