To the Editor:
As voting citizens of the community of Medfield, we have a large responsibility placed upon our shoulders. We have to balance the needs of each individual and each collective group. It is hard, yet doing the right thing can be necessary and rewarding. In this day and age, sometimes the “me” perspective outweighs the “we” perspective, with negative effects on the greater good.
When voting on June 11th, I ask that you please consider the “we” and how voting “Yes” for Questions 1 and 2, benefit the over 2600 school-aged citizens, (many more if I include kids ages 0-4), who don’t have a legal means to have a voice through a vote. It also benefits the community as a whole. Parents, educators, policymakers, and grandparents, hear our children’s voices loud and clear. The children of Medfield are asking us to vote “Yes”. They need us to vote “Yes”. These children are an integral part of the “we” of our community. Meeting their needs and maintaining a healthy environment where they can grow, learn, connect, develop positive mental health, and be prepared for the demands of the 21st Century work force, must be a priority for our town.

In this rapidly changing world, our education EXPERTS, our teachers and administrators, are telling us what they need in order to run our town’s schools effectively. The children are asking. Parents are listening. I truly hope the town residents hear them as well.
Our family moved to Medfield in 2005 and we have four boys. Our town, the educators, and the people who make up Medfield are our extended family and our village. We trust and rely on this village to raise our family, as many of you do or have. We know that town residents and leaders say they value our children and their education. Tomorrow, there will be an opportunity to truly put actions behind these words.
