Plastic Bag Ban in Medfield will resume Nov. 1, 2020 - Reusable Bags Allowed Now!

The Town of Medfield in cooperation with the Medfield Board of Health has announced that the Plastic Bag Ban will resume effective November 1, 2020, however bringing Reusable Bags to your retailers is in effect immediately.

Due to Covid-19 in March, Governor Baker declared a State of Emergency in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a grocery store order set out specific strategies to reduce Covid-19 exposure for customers and employees. Retailers were prohibited from allowing customers to use reusable bags, hence a direct impact on the Medfield Plastic Bag ban.

On Friday, July 10th, the Commissioner of the MA Dept of Public Health rescinded that order.

Retailers have been using plastic bags since March and what was unclear was the issue of when would the use of Plastic Bags in Medfield be banned again. In response to that, the Medfield Board of Health met on July 23rd to discuss this issue and came to consensus to allow retailers to continue the use of plastic bags through October 1, 2020 but the ban will resume on November 1, 2020.
