BOSTON, Mass. (August 22, 2018) – After 45 years of service to the Boston radio industry, advertising sales legend RICHARD BRODY of Medfield, Mass. has announced that he will retire from Beasley Media/WROR starting October 26, 2018.

Known nationally as an extraordinary and award-winning sales professional, Brody was also known as a great mentor and friend, and fierce advocate for the radio industry as a whole. In his career, Brody worked for WBLM (Maine), WCAS Cambridge where he hosted a jazz program, and sales at WCOZ, WBCN, WVBF, Kiss 108, Mix 98.5 (now Mix 104.1), WZLX and 98.5 The Sports Hub and most recently at WROR-FM (Beasley Media).
According to Jesse Carbone, General Sales Manager at Beasley Media/105.7FM WROR, “When Richard Brody walked into my office a couple of weeks ago and said he was ready to retire at first I didn’t believe him. I didn’t think Rich would ever stop working, but after a few minutes I realized it was in fact true. The guy who had spent more than four decades becoming a legend in the radio industry was finally ready to travel, visit family and friends, and hopefully sleep past 3 a.m.”
Carbone continues, “Throughout his career, Rich not only sold the stations for which he worked but he also championed the medium with unmatched passion. The radio industry will not be the same without him.”

“Congratulations to one of the brightest in the radio industry,” said Mark Keaney, Director of Sales/Northeast for Sprinklr and Owner of OTL Local Marketing. “Rich was my first mentor who preached ‘client-first’ and taught me the importance of hard work, patient persistence and service that sells.”
Brody’s prowess in sales started in his youth growing up in Oceanside, NY; Brody won Newspaper Carrier of New York for most new subscriptions at 12 and 13 years old, and opened his own retail store at age 15.
Though a native New Yorker, Brody came to Boston in 1971 for college and never left and says “there is no greater believer than a convert”. For seven years (1976-1983), Brody also was a successful concert promoter as co-owner of Brody/Kurland Productions (among other corporate names). He promoted hundreds of concerts for such artists as Pat Metheney, Ray Charles, Arlo Guthrie, The Crusaders, Jerry Jeff Walker, Tom Waits, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, and many more. He also dabbled in acting and professional theatre early in his broadcast career.
Brody has won numerous national and regional awards for broadcast sales success, and was the first salesperson in the market to break top sales records consistently each year. His warm and personable presence as a mentor and broadcast sales professional raising the bar for others will be sorely missed.
A resident of Medfield, Mass., Brody’s retirement will begin this fall with a focus on family, travel to visit his adult son Steven in Las Vegas and friends all over the world, and helping others through various volunteer efforts, including professional consulting and board service.
