Sunday's Pan Mass Challenge Riders Stop In Medfield

On Sunday, August 7th, under full sun and with steamy 95-100 degree temperatures, the Pan Mass Challenge Riders came through Medfield and took a short break at the last water station at Medfield High School on their ride to Wellesley.

Young and old, fit and not-so-fit, locals and those from afar took part in this year's Aug 6 and 7th PMC Challenge. As they approached the water stop, their faces told their story from exhaustion to elation, but after the break, they continued on.

Many of the riders are cancer survivors and the extraordinary number of people riding in the PMC event on Sunday was overwhelming, especially considering this was one of the hottest days of the summer. The PMC requires a huge number of volunteers and the ones in Medfield were full of energy and cheering the riders on and ringing cowbells.

The ride on Sunday was the 50-mile route from Wellesley to Wellesley. This was a one-day route.

On Saturday, PMC riders beginning in Wellesley and riding to Cape Cod rode through Medfield on North Street from Wellesley, crossing Main St. and continuing up Pleasant Street. Many of them pedaled through Medfield at 7am or earlier.

Regardless of which route any of these riders chose to do, 100 percent of every-rider raised dollar goes to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
