A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In 1767 Medfield Town Meeting voted to condemn the slave trade. The Atlantic slave trade, involved the transportation by slave traders of various enslaved African people, mainly to the Americas. The vast majority of those who were enslaved and transported in the transatlantic slave trade were people from Central and West Africa. African slaves and their future offspring were legally the property of their owners, as children born to slave mothers were also slaves. As property, the people were considered merchandise and were sold at markets with other goods and services."
