A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"On July 4, 1820 Independence Day was celebrated in Medfield with great enthusiasm. A cannon was brought from Walpole and placed in the middle of Main Street. A parade was held featuring the militia of Medfield. The militia, clergy and town officials all marched to the Meetinghouse on North Street. There the Declaration of Independence was read and the oration was delivered by Silas Holbrook. All then went to the Johnson Tavern (site of today’s town hall) and sat down for dinner."
