A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In 1947, Town Meeting voted to give a five-year lease to Ruth and Harry Mamas to use Chenery Hall (Town Hall) as a movie theater. Mamas donated $2000 to the town for alterations to the second-floor hall of town hall that included sound padding on the walls covered with a decorative fireproof rose-colored fabric material and partitions throughout the hall. A marquee and false front on the front entrance to Town Hall was added. The marquee had the name “Medfield” on the top and was illuminated at night in conjunction with removable letters which were placed in the sign announcing the motion picture being played."
