Thirty First Week, Sunday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"The New England Telephone and Telegraph Company informed the town that starting January 13, 1955, Medfield’s phone system would be converted from the crank-phone system, with the local Medfield operators, to a dial telephone system. The conversion caused concern in the town because the town would be losing its local operators. With no operator stationed in Medfield there would be a problem as to who would sound the fire alarm or civil defense alarm. Selectmen filed a bill with the state legislature to authorize the Commissioner of Mental Health to have the operator at Medfield State Hospital perform those essential duties."
