A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"There use to be double railroad tracks that ran through Medfield Center on the Mansfield to Framingham line. In 1919, after World War I, there was a heavy traffic of trains running on the line through Medfield taking returning troops to Fort Devens to be mustered out of service. The trains slowed down at the Main Street Crossing and the local Medfield population would toss cigarettes and food to the troops on board. In return, many of the soldiers tossed war souvenirs to the Medfield population waiting along the tracks and by the Medfield Center Train Station."
