Unmatched Socks

We all have a collection of unmatched socks. What do you do with them? How are they like your pile of unanswered faith questions?

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT) “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

I love the sense of completion when the laundry basket is empty and the socks have all found mates. My collection of unmatched socks disturbs me. Is the missing sock truly lost or hiding under a bed? How long do I wait for the mate? Where do lost socks go?

As we learn and mature, some questions from earlier in our faith journey will find answers. However, if we study scripture well, new questions will arise that can’t be explained at that time. With some longstanding issues, we may need to stop asking and accept the mystery.

Have you dug through your collection of unanswered faith questions recently? Perhaps you can make immediate connections! Are you constantly learning, gaining better understanding, and generating new questions? God wants us to ask questions, wrestle with doubts, work toward deeper understanding, and develop a personal, meaningful faith.

What are your faith questions? Where will you seek insight?
