UPDATED: Medfield Cross Country Teams Run by Ashland
Here's a photo gallery look Medfield High School's boys' and girls' cross country victories over Ashland Wednesday at McCarthy Park off Hospital Road.
The boys' and girls' cross country teams began their 2011 seasons in dominating fashion, running past Ashland in the Warriors' opening meets at McCarthy Field off Hospital Road Wednesday.
Medfield's Ian Robertson and Jack Moses finished 1-2 in a field of nearly 80 runners and kept an impressive distance from the pack throughout the course.
"We got off to a great start," said Medfield boys' cross country coach Tom Woods. "Ian Robertson is in his first season of cross country. He won his first 3.1 mile race in a speedy 16:18 followed immediately by senior captain Jack Moses in 16:19."

The Medfield boys' placed nine runners in the top 10, with an Ashland runner finishing seventh and defeated the Clockers, 15-49 to open the year.
"While Ashland had a very small team, they still had quality runners," Woods said. "Though the course was a bit slippery at points, the misty, cool day provided for ideal cross country weather. The team put in a great deal of work over the summer and so far this season, so it is great to see their efforts pay off in this first meet."

"I was very impressed with our returning varsity runners, as four of them, Taylor Worthy, Ashley Campisano, Sally Todd and senior captain Ashley Bryant posted personal bests on our home course," said Warriors' girls' head coach Diane Lyon. "Our two other senior captains, Kelsey Sipple and Eleanor Pope also ran fast times on the slippery 2.95 mile course."
Worthy was the first girl to cross the finish line at a time of 20:13. Campisano was six second behind her to finish second.
Lyon said she was happy with the performances of the team's other returning varsity members: Kelly Gair, Gina Joseph, Jillian Lurie and Rachel Bozadjian, who she said "all ran strong, steady races with little opposition."
Seniors Claudia Tishler and Abby McQuillan and sophmores Sarah Bock, Katherine Lamb and Delaney Lawson, also had strong showings and Lyon said each will "contribute greatly to the depth of this year's team."
For the Warriors, the goal is to be running in November.
"Our team goal is to make a return trip to the All-State Meet in November," said Lyon.
