Lily Bligh, a Wheelock second grade student was pleasantly surprised when she learned she was chosen as the State Grade Level winner of the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest.
A few days before April vacation, Lily Bligh was taking part in a school assembly along with all other second graders and at the conclusion of the assembly, Principal, Donna Olson announced that Lily Bligh had been chosen as the winner from more than 300,000 students. The students, teachers and invited guests applauded as Lily walked toward the front of the room to accept her award.
Lily was given a Winner Medallion, and her parents, siblings and grandparents were there to see her receive this award and to congratulate her.

Lily was selected as a State Winner for her excellent penmanship, and she is now eligible to compete for the Grand National Champion Title. Semi-finalists and the Grand National Champions will be notified by early May.
In addition, Lily’s second grade teacher, Miss Sarah Murphy, received an Engraved Glass Diamond Award and the Ralph Wheelock School received a $200 Zaner-Bloser gift certificate.
