When hell or Niagra Falls freezes over...

Winter in New England

New Englanders have been in the deep freeze for what seems like weeks and weeks but not quite, just feels that way. The sub zero temps have certainly gotten our attention and as cold weather inhabitants we know those extreme temps can raise havoc with our cars, homes and lifestyle...static ridden hairstyles, from our adorable pom pom hats, are never a sought after look!

Yes, more importantly reflecting about our very recent experience and bout with bad luck... a pipe burst in our home. The sound and the discovery of pooling water from locations you KNOW water shouldn't be pouring into...disastrous! Initially you go through that slow motion, out of body, VERY brief period of time allowing your brain to understand the situation at hand to those quick reflexes catapulting you into action and responsiveness...down the cellar stairs to turn off the water main! I imagine the whole emergency of the event was fairly brief but the repair sadly will not be. An extraordinary amount of water permeated our ceilings and walls when the force of the pipe burst sending water throughout. An event like this never occurs during the work week, normal business hours or a convenient time for anyone. Happy New Year and what a way to bring in 2018! Did I mention we had just completed our second round of renovations to our home? The contractor working very hard to finish so we could enjoy our new changes for Christmas? Well, we got to see him and thank him for his beautiful work, consideration and effort to accommodate our Christmas deadline, in person very early on New Year's Day. We have a great working relationship with him, find him to be a friend but I don't think we were expecting or wanting to see him so early on a holiday morning...coffee at home with his family I am certain was a much more appealing prospect for him as well! The holidays are over, today is sort of a normal back to work day with the exception of school and business closures due to the extreme weather. Our favorite carpenter arrived this morning just before 8am to start the investigation by tearing down our brand new ceiling...water draining and fully employing numerous buckets and to quote Pete for an hour and 20 minutes "wow!" Pete's professional expertise led him right to the problem displaying a mere half inch split in a pipe in two separate nearby locations...all that water and damage from something almost not noteworthy! On we go to strategizing, fixing, repairing and hopefully correcting! Word on the street is as the temps moderate, to the 20's, and thawing commences is actually the opportune time for pipes to burst...Dear Lord say it is not so!We are very grateful to our amazing contractor, all the incredible craftsman he employs (especially our new best friend Pete) and of course the plumber for they have nearly as much invested in our little house as we do.

Just had a thought and a chilling flashback to the ice dams we survived, in our Wrentham home, many years ago...February is yet to come!
