2 Killed In Head-On Crash On Route 1 In Saugus
State Police said someone driving the wrong way on Route 1 collided head-on with another car. The driver and someone in the other car died.

SAUGUS, MA — Two people were killed during a head-on collision overnight on Route 1 northbound, according to State Police. State Police said the crash took place around 3:30 a.m. Saturday after a driver going the wrong way struck another vehicle. The wrong-way driver, identified as Luis Gallego, 29, and a woman in the other car were killed, police said.
According to police, Gallego first clipped the rear-end of a box truck before crashing his Impala into a 2018 Dodge Journey SUV. State Police said the Impala caught fire and found Gallego dead inside the burning vehicle.
The woman, who police have yet to identify, was rushed to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Dodge Journey, a 51-year-old Peabody man, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious injuries. The box truck driver was not injured.
