MELROSE, MA — Work started last week on three school construction projects the mayor called "vital" in his city blog.
The Horace Mann is renovating two classrooms, reconfiguring the administration suite, and updating the school library. The school's first dedicated music and arts classroom is being constructed, and the main entry at the front of the building is being re-established to be handicap accessible outfitted with locked double doors and a buzzer.

Meanwhile, new modular classrooms are being installed at the Winthrop and Hoover schools to accommodate higher levels of student enrollment. The classrooms will have new technology to make for an "up-to-date learning environment."
