9 Melrose Students Make National History Bee Finals

Going from Melrose to Atlanta, these students are eligible for the championship.

MELROSE, MA - Nine students from the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School who participated in the National History Bee regional finals event have qualified for the National History Bee competition in Atlanta, Ga.

Eighth graders Eli Champoux, Alec DeGraaf, Ella Fleming, Matthew Frawley, Alex Germain, Thomas McAndrews, Xavier Meade-Kelly and Daniel Urchuk, along with seventh grade student Jonathan Wright, are all eligible to move on to the next step of the competition.

The school hosted the regional finals on Saturday, April 8. The national finals begin with preliminaries in Atlanta on June 2-3, and championship finals will be held on June 4.

“We have had one or two students qualify each year, but nine is quite an accomplishment. This is not an easy competition, and our students continue to showcase their knowledge of history topics,” Principal BrentConway said. “We’re extremely proud to have these students represent the middle school, and we wish them luck in the next stage of the competition.”
