Melrose Opens Cooling Locations Amid Record Heat In MA

This comes as "extreme heat" is expected to feel like more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas.

MELROSE, MA —The city is encouraging residents to take advantage of several air-conditioned locations this week as high temperatures and dangerous heat continue across much of Massachusetts.

Residents looking to escape the heat can cool off at the Melrose Public Library or the Milano Center during the middle of the week. The city also noted that the Department of Conservation and Recreation's Lawrence Memorial Pool is open daily throughout the summer as another way to beat the heat.

The National Weather Service has warned of dangerous heat across much of the state this week, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees in some areas. The hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through Thursday before temperatures begin to ease heading into the holiday weekend.

Officials also reminded residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day and check on older adults, young children and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Cooling locations will be available at the following times and locations:

Melrose Public Library (69 W. Emerson St.)

Milano Center (201 W. Foster St.)

DCR Lawrence Memorial Pool (65 Tremont St.)
