Melrose Launches New Online Budget Transparency Portal

MELROSE, MA — The city has launched a new online budget transparency portal that will allow residents to view department-level budget information and other fiscal documents.

The new portal, ClearGov, was announced in the city’s most recent “The Week Ahead” update. According to the city, the tool is being introduced as part of Mayor Jen Grigoraitis’ administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability from City Hall.

ClearGov is a budgeting, planning and reporting software platform used by local governments to help present financial information to the public. The company, which is based in Maynard, says its software is used by more than 1,700 local governments, school districts and state agencies.

Melrose officials had previously previewed the platform during last year’s budget process. In May 2025, Grigoraitis said the city was using ARPA funds to support the adoption of ClearGov, describing it as a way to share the budget with the public in a “more comprehensive and digestible manner.”

The rollout comes shortly after the City Council voted unanimously to approve the city’s $126,652,797 FY27 budget. Fiscal Year 2027 begins on Wednesday, July 1 and runs through June 30, 2027.

According to the city, the FY27 budget includes capital line items for school technology, a new police cruiser, EMS and fire equipment, traffic calming, roadway and school building repairs, and other previously underfunded priorities. City officials have said the budget was supported by revenue from the 2025 override.
