MELROSE, MA — Overnight construction will begin at a local Commuter Rail station as accessibility improvements continue at the stop.
Crews at Wyoming Hill Station will begin working overnight shifts starting on the night of Sunday, Oct. 18, Melrose City Hall announced. Work will take place between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. to construct the station's canopy steel structures.
The MBTA notified the city that the overnight work is intended to speed up construction and ensure the project is completed on schedule. Regular train schedules will not be affected.
The work comes as Wyoming Hill undergoes a series of accessibility improvements expected to be substantially complete by late fall. Planned upgrades include new ADA-compliant mini-high boarding platforms and ramps, along with other improvements meant to modernize the station's infrastructure and accessibility features. The MBTA said the project will improve accessibility and the overall customer experience while bringing the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Construction previously brought temporary boarding changes during a September weekend, with the inbound and outbound sides of the station closed on separate days. Trains continued running in both directions while passengers were redirected to the opposite platform.
Wyoming Hill is one of three MBTA Commuter Rail stations in Melrose. The station's existing low-level platforms are not accessible for passengers with disabilities. It is located off Franklin Street between West Wyoming Avenue and Glen Road.
