Dyslexic Kids
Beyond Self Defense of Wakefield will be initiating a program for children with dyslexia or a specific learning disability.
I ran a program at the Landmark school for dyslexic students from 1976 to1979, which was very successful. I am finding that more and more students are being sent here to receive help with their ability to focus and to improve their motor skills.

There is just one problem... they are mixed in with kids that do not take in information the same way they do. It has nothing to do with one being smarter than the other. No one knows that better than me because I am dyslexic. A dyslexic child does better when all the senses are put into play and everything is broken down into smaller component parts. Long explanations do not work well either. Children who have trouble with focus can't listen for more than 3 or 4 minutes without moving.
Dyslexics are smart! It’s pretty sad when a child has to go through the day thinking that they are incapable of learning. That is not a formula for success.

I highly recommend a KARATE school because the karate schools teach KATA. Kata is a prearranged sequence of movements that students can do in groups or alone. Thus they are constantly able to practice drills that will improve their ability to focus and develop fine tune motor skills. Kata is training by rout which is exactly what all kids’ need.
If you have a child that needs help with their motor skills or their ability to focus call Sensei Louie and set up a free screening.
